40 Books For Women To Read in 2017
The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood
The makings of a true horror story: A dystopian world in which a woman’s only worth is her ability to breed. Read it before the new Hulu series starring Elisabeth Moss premieres in April. Buy the book
The Dollhouse by Fiona Davis
The Velvet Hours by Alyson Richman
Dissension – Adrienne Monson
Vampire Leisha is caught in the middle of an eternal and bloody war between her people and immortals, an undying race sworn to destroy all vampires. It’s a different life from the one she had 2,000 years ago when she led a quiet life as a devoted mother. Leisha soon finds herself captured by the government, only to be saved by a mysterious human girl. Leisha and her newfound friend run for their lives while searching for the one thing that can bring an end to this escalating conflict–the prophecy child. Buy the Book
Beloved by Toni Morrison
Based on a true story, this haunting novel follows Sethe and her daughter Denver after they escape from slavery and run to Ohio. It’s tough to read twice, but once is mandatory. Buy the book
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
It’s perhaps the most knocked-off novel in history with material ripe for rom-coms. But you’ve gotta read the original. Buy the book
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
An exquisite coming-of-age tale that tackled controversial topics—sexuality, religion andclassism—way before it was cool. Initially, Brontë published the book under the male-sounding pseudonym “Currer Bell.” Buy the book
The Bookshop on the Corner by Jenny Colgan
Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë
This classic was also published under a pseudonym, but when Emily died a year later, her sister Charlotte re-edited the intense love story about a young woman and her adopted brother and included Emily as the author. Buy the book
Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf
The account of a high-society woman planning a party unfolds over the course of a day. Although Woolf denied the connection, it’s often compared to James Joyce’s Ulysses—but a helluva lot shorter. Buy the book
Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
Initially rejected for its frankness about racism, the story of Janie, a black woman grappling with marriage, later became one of the most enduring works of the 20th century. Buy the book
Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier
This chilling Gothic novel tells the story of a woman who marries a widower, but discovers that his late wife is still very much a part of their lives. Buy the book
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
OK, you’ve probably read this Pulitzer Prize-winning coming-of-age novel about racial injustice in the South. But read it again. Read it ten more times. Buy the book
Today Will Be Different by Maria Semple
I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou
Angelou’s screed about literature’s power to overcome racism and trauma was on TheNew York Times best-seller list for two years. It’s that good. Buy the book
The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
It’s an emotional read, but this courageous novel based on Plath’s own experiences made it OK to talk about depression. Buy the book
The Color Purple by Alice Walker
Yes, the movie and the Broadway musical are good, too, but actually read the story of Celie and Nettie, OK? Buy the book
The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan
Consider this 1989 best seller an artful, character-driven introduction to mahjong. Buy the book
The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion
Read this heartwarming memoir about the unexpected deaths of Didion’s husband and daughter with a box of tissues. Actually, two. Buy the book
Paris For One by Jojo Moyes

When forty-five year old Ellen Michaels looses her husband to a tragic military accident, she is left in a world of grey. For twenty-five years her life has been dictated by the ubiquitous They—the military establishment that has stolen her hopes, dreams, and innocence and now in mere months will take away her home. She is left with nothing to hold on to but memories and guilt and an awful secret that has held her in its grip since she was nineteen.
Written with honesty and grace, Dependent deals head on with real-life issues facing women in military communities today: loss, loneliness, frequent moves, the culture of rank and the specter of sexual assault. It presents a heartfelt view of the sacrifice and strength of the often invisible support behind the uniform.
Winner of the 2014 PRG Reviewers Choice Award for Best Drama Novel.
“Raw…real…heartbreaking.”—Brooke Blogs
“A must read for those studying Military Ethos.”—Chief Warrant Officer (Retired) Gino Morreti, Former Canadian Army Sargeant Major

Dissension Cover Reveal
For those of you who may not have heard, I got the rights to The Blood Inheritance trilogy reverted back to me in October. What does that mean? In a nutshell, I’m no longer a part of the Jolly Fish Press team. But this is great news! I’m now getting the books re-published through Tork Media!
My previous publisher kept all their rights to the book covers and formatting. So I had the privilege of giving the books a new makeover! I’m working with new editors to polish the books and new formatters to make it look amazing from the inside. And of course, new book covers to complete the transformation!
So, without further adieu, I give you the new cover for Dissension! It will be re-released December of 2016.
Snow Fright Cover Reveal!
The final installment of the Scarily Ever Laughter Series is here! Or, well it’s on its way. October 4th is its big debut. But no need to wait until October for all the excitement! You can see the cover now! (And be sure to check out the first two books in the series, Cinderskella and Little Dead Riding Hood!)
Snow Fright book Blurb
Sarah White is gorgeous even if she is a little bit rotten. A mirror arrives on her twelfth birthday and she thinks it’s the perfect gift. But when an innocent game of laser tag gets out of hand, the mirror swallows her whole!
Sarah finds herself dead center of the Underworld. As if repeated run-ins with Mr. Death weren’t bad enough, Sarah now has to deal with her decaying flesh and sudden craving for brains. Not to mention she keeps having brain freezes, all due to the seven worms living in her head.
Of corpse, by the time Sarah escapes the Underworld, she finds her new zombie life less than appetizing. Even worse, she needs to return to the Underworld to save her friends, Cindy and Scarlet. With a poisoned apple, a crow named Raven, and a glowing necklace, Sarah’s pretty sure that if she doesn’t rescue her friends, she’ll be a brain craving zombie forever. And that’s more dead-ication than she’s willing to accept.
Add Snow Fright to your Goodreads account or pre-order your copy at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or Indiebound!
About the authors:
Amie Borst loves glitter, unicorns, and chocolate. But not at the same time. That would be weird. She’s a PAL member of the SCBWI as well as a founding and contributing member of The Mixed-Up Files…of Middle-Grade Authors, a group blog dedicated to middle-grade books. Amie lives in Virginia with her three beautiful daughters, her handsome husband, and two cute dogs named Lily and Maggie. She wishes she could travel the country in a hot pink elevator but for now, her minivan will have to do.
Bethanie Borst is 16 and the author of three books but she was only 10 years old when she wrote her first one. She enjoys reading, writing, and archery. She’s also interested in paleontology and astronomy. Bethanie is fluent in both sarcasm and humor and is prepared for the zombie apocalypse and/or spontaneous combustion of the world. Because, let’s face it, both of those things are totally realistic.
You can find the authors on Facebook, as well as their website.
Rachael Caringella is an artist, illustrator, intuitive reader, and healer. And deep down, she is just like you; a rebel and truth seeker.
